An android is a machine that is synthesized in a manner to look like humans not just in appearance, but also in behavior. The term android won’t be new to all those Star Trek fans. This human-like machine has been depicted at times in several forms of literature and movies. Until recently, android was thought to be a fiction, however, it’s not. It’s interesting to note that the thought of an android was originally fiction.

According to the fictional world, the main difference between an android and mechanical machine is their mere appearance. A robot is just a programmable machine whereas; the android consists of a human appearance on the outside with robot-like interior mechanisms. In some fictional plots, an android is portrayed as a completely organic, yet a synthetic being. However, in some instances it has been depicted as a mixture of both robotic and organic beings.

Despite these differences, one thing stays similar in all androids, and that was the availability of strong artificial intelligence. They are depicted to be mentally and physically higher to humans in which case they talk, move and react in the same fashion as we do. The ability of an android to think and work on its own is also a unique one as compared to any earlier robots.

So now we know that an android denotes several different kinds of synthetically {constructed|manufactured] beings. It is a robot that closely resembles a human, a cyborg that looks like a human and finally an artificially made purely organic being that looks like a human. Although the android was not real, it still has some real presence. Mentioned below are some of the uses of androids that have recently started to show up in our lives.

Humanoid Robot

This is a whole robot with a humanoid body. Most humanoid machines possess a torso, head, two hands and two legs just like humans. Some of the humanoid machines are also made with a face, eyes and mouth.

Industrial Robots

This is mainly an automatically manipulated machine that can even be reprogrammed for multiple purposes. In the more broader sense, the field of industrial robotics is the study, design and use of robotic functions for manufacturing and the devices also possesss arms that can manipulate things faster and more conveniently than humans.

Robotic Surgery

Machine guided surgery employs robots to perform some difficult surgeries in many hospitals. The aim is to conduct remote surgery in a less invasive manner. The greatest use of robotic surgery is how more accurate and miniaturized it is.

These were just a few applications of how androids are clearing their way into our lives. With androids remaining to be a fascination for humans, there is a likelihood that all future robots will look something like them.
